Cooler bag and ice packs

And no idea what's happening inside

  • The ice pack melts, and there's no way to know when

You can't see the temperature inside, so you open it and check again and again.

  • You need a freezer at every stop

To refreeze the ice packs, every stop along the way needs a fridge and a freezer.

  • Hunting for a hotel with a fridge

And planning the trip around the fridge, instead of around the place.

  • Bulky, and it takes up space in your bag

A cooler bag and ice packs take up half a bag, and they're a hassle to carry every day.

  • Extra weight on your shoulder

Heavy ice packs you carry all the way, just to keep a few pens cold.

  • Giving up the long trip

Because you're not sure your medication will stay cold the whole way.

How it works, for real

Plug in, put your medication in, go. And the display shows 2 to 8°C (36 to 46°F).

  1. Plug it in and wait for 2 to 8°C

Into a wall outlet with the wall charger from the box, or into a 10W power bank or a car adapter (sold separately). The XL 2.0 reaches the range in 15 to 20 minutes, the Standard in 20 to 30.

  2. Put your medication in and go

When the display shows 2 to 8°C, put the pens, vials or syringes in the cooling container, close the cap, and go.

  3. And without power: the bio-gel ice pack

Freeze the bio-gel ice pack for at least 12 hours (the night before is easiest). Wet it and wait about 2 minutes, then put it in with your medication and close with the regular cap that comes in the box.

  1. Step 1

    Before you leave

Plug it into a wall outlet. When the display shows 2 to 8°C (36 to 46°F), which takes 15 to 20 minutes on the XL 2.0 and 20 to 30 minutes on the Standard, put your injections in the cooling container, close the cap and go. A spare power bank is a good backup. For a backup without power: freeze the bio-gel ice pack for at least 12 hours (the night before is easiest), wet it and wait about 2 minutes, then put it in with your medication and close with the regular cap that comes in the box.

  2. Step 2

    At security

The Secrets Box meets TSA guidelines for medications on flights. Power bank rules are set by the airline, so check its policy before you fly.

  3. Step 3

    On the plane

Plug it into a 10W power bank (sold separately) or into the USB port at your seat*, and it stays at 2 to 8°C (36 to 46°F) for as long as it's plugged in. Quiet, under 40dB. Let the cabin crew know you're carrying a medication fridge with a power bank**.* Not every airline or aircraft has a USB port at the seat.
** The crew will tell you how to use it during takeoff and landing.

  4. Step 4

    At your destination

Plug it into the hotel wall outlet with the wall charger from the box, and there's no need to look for a room with a fridge or freezer. A day without power? The bio-gel ice pack: 33 hours at 30°C (86°F), 30 at 35°C (95°F) and 28 at 40°C (104°F), according to supplier data.

What customers say

What people who already travel with it say

4.9

out of 5, based on 7 verified reviews

"Well packed, everything intact and as described. … Its display shows the temperature dropping to 2 to 3°C when it runs from the wall outlet. … The cooling compartment fits 7 insulin pens."

D., review on Loox (translated from Hebrew)

And one more thing to know: one customer asked for a disconnect alert. There's no disconnect alert, so we're telling you up front: the temperature is always on the display, so check it now and then.

"In the first week of a six-month trip, our medication froze in the cooler bag. Since then we only fly with it, already four and a half months in Thailand and Japan."

Questions before you fly

Flying and power

Can I take The Secrets Box on a flight?

Yes. The Secrets Box meets TSA guidelines for medications on flights. TSA doesn't approve or certify travel products. Power bank rules on flights are set by the airline, so check its policy in advance.

Is the power bank included?

No. The box includes a USB to USB-C cable, a wall charger and a bio-gel ice pack. Plug it into a wall outlet, or into a 10W power bank (20,000mAh or more recommended, 10,000mAh also works). The power bank is sold separately.

Will it last on a long flight?

As long as it's plugged in to a 10W power bank (sold separately), The Secrets Box keeps 2 to 8°C (36 to 46°F) with no time limit, and the temperature is on the display. As a backup, the bio-gel ice pack in the box keeps the cooling range for 33 hours at 30°C (86°F), 30 hours at 35°C (95°F) and 28 hours at 40°C (104°F), according to supplier data.

What do I do at my destination, if there's no fridge in the room?

Plug it into a wall outlet with the wall charger from the box, and it stays at 2 to 8°C (36 to 46°F) for as long as it's plugged in. No need to look for a hotel with a fridge. In the car, plug it in through a USB adapter for the car's 12V socket (sold separately).

Does the fridge have a disconnect alert?

No. The Secrets Box has no disconnect alert. The temperature is always on the digital display, so check it now and then to make sure the fridge is plugged in and on.

Fit and models

Will my pen fit in The Secrets Box?

The number depends on pen size: measured in the XL 2.0, it fits up to 7 Lantus-size pens and up to 5 Ozempic-size pens, and with wider pens the number depends on the pen type. Each model has its own list, because the cooling container is different (XL 2.0: 6.2 × 18 cm / 2.4 × 7.1 in, Standard: 5 × 16.5 cm / 2.0 × 6.5 in). Can't find your pen? Message us on WhatsApp.

Why isn't it suitable for medication stored at room temperature?

The Secrets Box keeps a range of 2 to 8°C (36 to 46°F), and it's made for medication that needs refrigeration. If your medication needs to be stored at room temperature, this isn't the right product for it. Your medication's patient leaflet says what suits it.
